KUCHING, Sept 9: The Sarawak government has expressed its deepest condolences to the families of a pilot and four Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel who died in a helicopter crash near Long Lellang.
According to an official statement issued by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the contribution of the medical crew serving remote regions remains invaluable.
“Their service, dedication, courage, and sacrifice in providing healthcare to the community, particularly in interior areas, will always be remembered and appreciated,” the government stated.
It also conveyed sympathy to the bereaved families, offering prayers for strength and fortitude as they face the loss of their loved ones.
The tragedy occurred at approximately 3.40pm on Sept 8 when the Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crashed near the Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing Airport (STOLport).
Miri Resident Galong Luang confirmed that all five individuals on board died in the incident, based on reports from the Fire and Rescue Department and the Ministry of Health.
The victims comprised the pilot, a medical officer, an assistant medical officer, and two nurses who had departed from Miri on official duty to deliver medical care to isolated rural communities. — DayakDaily
