Sarawak logs 470 new Covid-19 cases, two deaths including 1 BID

KUCHING, March 28: Sarawak reported 470 new Covid-19 infections and two deaths, including 1 brought-in-dead (BID) case today.

According to an update from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the BID case involved a 54-year-old man with nursing needs from Sarikei who passed away yesterday (March 27).


The second fatality was a 37-year-old man from Betong who passed away on March 23. He had cancer.

He was the 1,681th death due to Covid-19 in Sarawak since 2020.

Meanwhile, Kuching was the only district which reported a triple-digit case count (154) today, followed by Miri (65), Sibu (43), Bintulu (38), Samarahan (24), Sarikei (21), Bau (18), Sri Aman (14), Mukah (13), Limbang (11) and Serian (10).

Other districts reporting below 10 cases are Kanowit (8), Betong (7), Marudi (7), Pusa (7), Tanjung Manis (5), Lawas (4), Meradong (4), Kabong (3), Kapit (2), Lundu (2), Julau (2) while Simunjan, Saratok, Dalat, Tebedu, Subis, Asajaya, Telang Usan and Beluru recorded one case each.

This brings the cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 295,900.

Of the new cases reported, 195 cases were classified as Category 1 (asymptomatic) and 269 cases as Category 2 (mild symptoms).

The remaining six cases were classified as critical, involving a Category 3 patient who has pneumonia, four Category 4 patients who need oxygen supply, and a Category 5 patient who needs a ventilator to breathe.

Members of the public are reminded to continue observing Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) as the fight against the pandemic has not been won yet. — DayakDaily
