LUNDU, Aug 13: The Sarawak government has set up a temporary security post at Telok Melano, here.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg when revealing this, said although the federal government has recently approved over RM20 million for Telok Melano CIQ complex under the 12th Malaysia Plan, it will be delayed due to budget constraints.
“I would like to thank the federal government for approving a CIQ complex at Telok Melano. However, due to their budget constraints, we the state government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has decided to help.
“So Sarawak government has built a temporary security post on a seven-hectare land at a cost of about RM500,000. The Customs, Immigration, and Police are there as well,” Abang Johari said after visiting the new temporary site located on the Indonesian-Sarawak border.
He said the construction of the security post which is located about 2km from KM0 Telok Melano commenced on March 17 this year and was completed on Aug 10.
The temporary security post will be equipped with the necessary infrastructure and facilities.
With the completion of the 32km Pan Borneo Highway from Telok Melano to Sematan, Abang Johari pointed out that there is a need for proper security post to be set up.
“There are many people commuting in and out, crossing the border between Indonesia and Sarawak and activities are going on. Therefore, it is only right that we have a CIQ complex which is important for Sarawak in terms of security. — DayakDaily
