BINTULU, Oct 24: The Sarawak government intends to develop the Jepak area as a new administrative centre and satellite town to stimulate economic growth while improving the living standards of the local population.
In a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said this initiative could provide opportunities for investment, employment, and growth of the regional economic sector.
According to him, it also includes the development of infrastructure such as roads, industrial areas, trade centres, and other facilities needed to attract investors and increase economic activity.
“This area has a high potential to be developed as a satellite town. It is true that we are planning to reorganise the infrastructure, including implementing housing projects in stages by prioritising those in Jepak.
“Indirectly, it reflects efforts to expand and strengthen public services and increase the accessibility of administration to residents in this area,” he said.
The deputy chairman of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) said this when met at a community programme at Balai Raya Jepak yesterday (Oct 23).
Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar; Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and Ukas), Datuk Abdullah Saidol; Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, Dr Ripin Lamat; Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak advisor, Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais; Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) deputy chairman, Dato Haidar Khan Asghar Khan; and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Jepak candidate, Iskandar Turkee, were present at the programme. — DayakDaily
