KUCHING, May 17: Sarawak Energy Berhad celebrated the outstanding contributions of its top-performing vendors and contractors at the Sarawak Energy Vendor Excellence Awards (SEVEA) 2025 held at a local hotel in Kuching last night (May 16).
Themed “Empowering Partnerships, Driving Excellence,” the event recognises excellence in contract execution, service reliability and compliance with Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) standards.
The ceremony was officiated by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who emphasised the vital role vendors play in Sarawak’s energy future as the State transitions towards renewable energy and regional power exports.
“With Sarawak Energy aiming to supply 10 gigawatts of power by 2030 and 15 gigawatts by 2035, this expansion creates more room for our vendors to grow alongside it,” he said.
He explained that as Sarawak connects to neighbouring regions through the ASEAN Power Grid—including Sabah, Brunei, and possibly Southern Philippines—vendors will be needed to support power delivery and infrastructure maintenance.
“If SEB flies far, its vendors will fly far too. There’s potential for you to expand into other regions, through joint ventures,” he added.
The Premier noted that Sarawak Energy’s standards in professionalism, safety, and environmental compliance will serve as a benchmark for vendors entering new markets.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, acknowledged the vital contributions of the vendor ecosystem to Statewide utility development.
“Tonight, we honour contractors, consultants, service providers and suppliers who have helped deliver projects safely and efficiently under challenging and demanding conditions.
“Your work enables us to bring electricity to rural longhouses and kampungs, enhance grid reliability in fast-growing towns across Sarawak, and contribute to Sarawak’s aspirations of becoming a net exporter of renewable energy in the near future,” he said.
On the other hand, Sarawak Energy chairman, Datuk Ibrahim Baki, who is also Deputy Minister of Utility (Sarawak Energy and PETROS), highlighted the importance of building resilient partnerships grounded in performance, safety and shared values.
“These awards are based on a rigorous evaluation of contract execution, HSSE compliance, and integrity, reflecting Sarawak Energy’s commitment to high standards and sustainable business practices.
“In line with Sarawak’s ambition to achieve high-income status by 2030, we are proud that 53 per cent of our 5,318 engaged vendors are Sarawakians, including many Bumiputera businesses. We will continue creating opportunities so that competent and committed local vendors can grow with us,” he said.
A total of fifteen vendors were recognised across six award categories, namely Best Works, Best Supplier, Best Service Provider, Best Local Consultant, Best International Consultant, and Best Bumiputera Partner.
