MIRI, June 25: The Sarawak government has approved 54 emergency repair projects worth RM140.5 million in the Miri Division to address infrastructure damage caused by disasters such as floods, slope failures and landslides.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the initiatives reflect the government’s continued commitment to safeguarding public safety and ensuring the smooth functioning of daily life for communities affected by natural disasters.
He said the projects cover road repairs, slope stabilisation works, and the replacement of damaged small bridges.
“For the Miri Division as a whole, the Sarawak government has approved 54 emergency repair projects involving an allocation of RM140.5 million for immediate implementation.
“Of these, 19 projects have been fully completed, 14 are currently under construction, while another 21 are still at the planning stage,” he said as reported by TVS news.
His speech was delivered by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala, at the Ngiling Bidai Gawai Dayak for the Lambir Constituency at a hotel here on Wednesday night (June 24).
Meanwhile, Uggah said ongoing infrastructure development in the Lambir area is aimed at strengthening connectivity and improving basic amenities for residents.
He said 52 road projects worth RM17 million have been approved in the area, with 28 already completed, 14 at the tender stage, six under maintenance, and four new roads currently under construction.
In addition, RM1.8 million has been allocated for six small bridge projects, four of which have been completed while the remaining two are still under maintenance.
Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development, who is also Lambir assemblyman, Datuk Ripin Lamat was among the distinguished guests present. — DayakDaily
