MIRI, June 23: Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Development I Datuk Rosey Yunus reiterated the importance to merge three rural primary schools in Saeh with low pupil numbers into one.

This would allow better facilities to be provided and specialised teachers to be posted there, she said.

These primary schools are Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Mentali, SK Sungai Saeh and SK Rumah Undi.

“Parents and also Tuai-Tuai Rumah (village heads) from 20 longhouses within Saeh area must understand the necessity to merge these low enrolment schools,” she said on Wednesday night during the Ngiling Tikai in Saeh.

On the new site for the merger, Rosey reminded, 20 longhouse headmen (within Saeh) must discuss and communicate effectively with one another to avoid arguments over the decision to choose a suitable plot of land for the merger.

The Ngiling Tikai programme was organised by Saeh zone development working committee with Bekenu constituency service centre and the Sarawak Public Information Unit (UKAS).

Meanwhile, Sibuti Member of Parliament (Sibuti MP) Lukanisman Awang Sauni also echoed similar views on the merger.

He pointed out that the merger would help to solve the problem of low enrolment at the three schools.

“We should emulate what has been done at Skim Rancangan Sepupok, whereby schools with low enrolment here are being merged. This project is expected for completion in 2024,” disclosed Lukanisman.

At the event both Lukanisman and Rosey have pledged Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants of RM3,000 each to Women Bureaus, village development and security committee (JKKK) from 20 longhouses within Saeh.

They also pledged to contribute RM10,000 and RM20,000 to the Saeh development working committee. — DayakDaily
