RM56K in illegal cigarettes seized from business in Sarikei

SARIKEI, June 18: A total of 69,480 sticks of illicit cigarettes was confiscated by the Sarikei Regional Police (PPM) Region 5 at a business premises in Jakar, near here today.

The items are estimated at RM56,320.

PPM Region 5 commander, Assistant Commissioner Shamsol Kassim said the seizure was successfully carried out as a result of the Ops Covid 19 (Landai) patrol in the area around 11am.


“As a result of a raid on the first floor of the business premises, our team found various types of cigarettes that are believed to have escaped tax,” he added.

He said the owner of the business premises, a woman in her 40s was arrested to assist in investigations.

The case is investigated under the Customs Act 1967.—DayakDaily
