KUCHING, May 17: Sarawak values Singapore as a crucial trading partner, with the total trade volume between the two regions reaching RM5.18 billion in 2022.

According to a press statement, this figure comprised exports worth RM1.79 billion and imports at RM3.38 billion. The primary traded commodities encompassed petroleum and mineral fuels, electrical machinery, live animals, ships and boats, as well as plastics, among others.

With that, Sarawak has expressed its enthusiasm for further collaboration with Singapore across various sectors, including the hydrogen economy, renewable energy, tourism, manufacturing, carbon capture and storage, food security, and agriculture.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan conveyed this sentiment when receiving a courtesy visit from the Permanent Secretary (Development) to Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry Dr Beh Swan Gin at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex here today.

This marked Dr Beh’s inaugural visit to Sarawak since assuming his new position.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to exchange ideas and perspectives on potential areas of collaboration between Sarawak and Singapore.

With these favourable trade figures in mind, Awang Tengah, who is also Minister of International Trade and Investment, expressed his hope for increased collaborations in trade and investment between Singapore and Sarawak.

Awang Tengah said he looks forward to nurturing a mutually beneficial partnership that will foster economic growth and prosperity for both regions. — DayakDaily
