MIRI, Nov 5: A total of 400 streetlights across 10 areas in Senadin are being upgraded to brighter LED lights under a RM480,000 project expected to be completed by the end of November, with the new lights capable of illuminating roads up to four lanes wide.

Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the upgrading project was funded through the previous Senadin Rural Transformation Project (RTP) allocation as part of efforts to improve local infrastructure and road safety.

“92 streetlights along Jalan Ilmu had been replaced with LED lights, while another 30 along Jalan Sukan had also been upgraded.

“The project covers 10 locations, namely Jalan Dato Permaisuri 3 (22 lights), Jalan Dato Permaisuri 3C (18), Jalan Dato Permaisuri 2 (20), Jalan Murni Utama (52), Jalan Kiambang (15), Jalan Sena (28), Jalan Mulia (28), Jalan Ilmu (92), Jalan Sukan (30) and Jalan Riam (95),” he said.

Lee said this during an inspection visit of LED installation works along Jalan Ilmu, Desa Senadin, on Wednesday (Nov 4), as reported by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).

To date, 275 streetlights across eight locations have been upgraded, with work on the remaining 125 along Jalan Sukan and Jalan Riam still underway.

Lee said the LED lights provided significantly brighter illumination than the previous sodium-vapour lamps, allowing motorists to have clearer visibility at night.

He added that the improved lighting would make driving more comfortable while enhancing the safety of all road users. — DayakDaily
