TEBEDU, Oct 31: A total of 325 LED streetlights have been installed along the Tebakang-Mongkos Road under a RM2.16 million project, improving visibility and providing safer journeys for motorists and residents along the stretch from Simpang Kampung Mayang Kawan to Kampung Muara Mongkos.
Sarawak Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Martin Ben said the project was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen basic infrastructure in rural areas and provide a safer travelling environment for local communities.
“The installation of streetlights will continue in stages along major roads within the Kedup constituency to ensure more areas benefit from this infrastructure,” he said during the symbolic launch of the streetlighting project yesterday (Oct 30).
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the project also includes the installation of lamp posts and seven transformers to ensure a more comprehensive and effective road lighting system.
Meanwhile, Martin reminded road users to use the newly illuminated roads responsibly and refrain from turning them into venues for illegal racing.
He also urged Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) to ensure vegetation and overgrown bushes along the streetlight routes are regularly cleared to prevent obstructions and maintain optimal lighting conditions.
