KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9: Students at public higher education institutions will receive higher airfare assistance next year, with the FlySiswa Madani 2027 aid increased to RM500 from RM400, benefiting more than 60,000 students.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the increase when tabling Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat today.
“The FlySiswa Madani 2027 airfare assistance will be increased to RM500, up from RM400, benefiting more than 60,000 students at public higher education institutions (IPTAs),” he said.
Meanwhile, Anwar said the government was stepping up efforts to address student accommodation issues by working with government-linked investment companies (GLICs) to expedite housing projects.
He added that Phase 1 of the Universiti Malaya Student Residence was scheduled for completion in 2031 and was expected to benefit 10,000 students.
The Retirement Fund Incorporated (KWAP) will also invest RM750 million in the VISTA KAMPUS project to build student accommodation at six selected universities, including Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
To improve access to affordable meals, the Dapur Siswa MADANI programme will be expanded to polytechnics and teacher education institutes, with an allocation of RM20 million.
Anwar said the programme would provide cooking equipment and food supplies, as well as the RM5 Menu Kasih Siswa meal initiative.
In addition, tax deductions will be offered to parties contributing food and equipment for the programme from Jan 1, 2027, to Dec 31, 2030. — DayakDaily
