BINTANGOR, June 16: A long-awaited RM22.4 million swimming pool project in Meradong has moved into its implementation phase following the disbursement of RM1.77 million in land compensation to four landowners today, marking a key step towards the start of construction.
In a TVS report, Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said the payment represents a significant milestone for the Meradong swimming pool project, which has been in the planning pipeline for several years.
He said the project site has now been finalised after undergoing detailed planning, assessment and approvals by the relevant authorities.
“The finalisation of the site is an important step that allows us to move forward with the construction of a much-needed sports facility for the people of Meradong,” he said at the Land Compensation Cheque Presentation Ceremony at the Meradong District Office today.
The ceremony was also attended by Meradong District officer Wee Teck Min and Sarikei Land and Survey Superintendent Awan Amal.
Ding said the tender for the project is expected to be called in July, with construction of the first phase scheduled to begin soon after, subject to the procurement process.
He expressed hope that all procedures would proceed smoothly to avoid further delays, ensuring the project benefits the local community as soon as possible.
A total of four affected landowners received RM1,774,808.50 in compensation under the land acquisition exercise.
Ding expressed his appreciation for their cooperation and support for the development.
“Their sacrifice in giving up their land for the sake of development is highly appreciated and contributes greatly to the progress of Meradong,” he said.
He added that the swimming pool is expected to serve not only as a sports facility but also as a hub for nurturing swimming talent and a potential venue for state and national competitions, including the Malaysia Games (SUKMA).
He said the facility is expected to become a new landmark for Meradong, strengthening sports development and fostering greater community pride. — DayakDaily
