SIBU, Feb 11: An Indonesian was arrested by marine police for having illegal logs of various species worth RM152,400 in his possession at Mile 40 Sibu-Selangau Road last night.

Sarawak Marine Police Region Five (PPMW5) commander ACP Shamsol Kassim said that at about 11.15pm on Monday, a team of enforcement officers from the department stopped a lorry carrying the 50 logs of various sizes and species at the said place.

Shamsol said the logs did not have owner’s stamps or that of the Sarawak Forestry Department (SFD).

The driver of the lorry, a 42-year old Indonesian, had also failed to produce any documents or permits from SFD for the logs.

“All these logs have been obtained illegally which is an offence under the Forest Ordinance 2015,” he added.

Shamsol said had been referred to Sarawak Forestry Sibu for further action. —DayakDaily
