RM132K worth of smuggled cigarettes seized by GOF

The smuggled cigarettes was found on the two vehicle trunk, back seat and even on the front-left side passenger seat.

LUNDU, Jan 31: A total of 416 carton of smuggled cigarettes worth RM132,640 were confiscated by the 11th Battalion of General Operations Force (GOF) during “Op Libas” in Lundu yesterday.

Its commanding officer Superintendent Rosdi Inai in a statement said that the operation was conducted at 3.30 pm by six officers from 11th Battalion GOF, led by the department’s intelligence officer based on information received.

“A total of 416 carton of Kretek and white cigarettes believed to be smuggled was found hidden inside two car parked at a carpark area in Gading hawker center in Lundu.

“A 43-year-old local man had admitted that one of the cars belong to him. Police also confiscated two other cars which brought the total amount to RM202,640,” he said.

Rosdi noted that based on the information received, the cigarettes were believe to have been smuggled from the neighbouring country to be sold on the local market.He said the case was handed over to the Lundu district Police headquarters for investigation under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.

“Lastly, I would like to advise the local communities to always be cooperative with the authorities especially the police to reduce the crime activities in their areas,” he said. —DayakDaily
