MIRI, Feb 17: Contraband alcohol and cigarettes worth RM434,083.40 were seized by the 12th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) in Miri on Tuesday (Feb 16) in two separate raids in Senadin.

The operation dubbed ‘Ops Libas’ was carried out at 12.30pm and 1pm respectively at two houses in Senadin.

According to GOF Miri commanding officer, Supt Tan Hiap Seng, during the raid they also apprehended a local man aged 25, believed to be a worker, to assist in the investigation.

The first raid was held at a house at Jalan Maigold, Taman Desa Senadin Phase 2C, while the second raid was at a house in Jalan Sena Desa Senadin Phase 4.

“The 25-year-man was detained at the second raid,” Tan said today in a statement.

At the first location, the GOF team seized contraband of beers (24 boxes), liquor (24 bottles) and cigarettes (59,600 sticks of white cigarettes, 23,520 clove cigerattes) with a total value of RM70,466.40.

At the second house, they confiscated contraband cigarettes (276,600 white cigarettes, 63,600 clove cigarettes); 219 boxes of beer, and 359 boxes of liquor worth RM363,617.

It was believed that both houses were used as storage facilities for the contraband before distribution.
