KUCHING, Dec 3: A sum of RM5 million each has been allocated to maintain former logging roads in Mulu and Telang Usan.

Sarawak Deputy Premier-cum-Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the maintenance works are ongoing.

In detail, he said the maintenance works include roads from Long San to Long Bangga and Pa Dalih to Bario Road in Mulu, as well as the 32km road from Long Atip to Long Terawan in Telang Usan.

“The road conditions have deteriorated and are full of potholes and uneven surfaces.

“They have not been maintained since a logging company left the area about 10 years ago,” said Uggah in a statement today.

Meanwhile, he also mentioned the new steel bridge project across Sg Tutoh in Baram.

He said the project is expected to be completed in March next year following the delay in construction due to adverse weather and high tides.

Uggah attended a briefing conducted by Miri Public Works Department (JKR) engineer Stephen Ung Neng Hui on the implementation progress of some approved projects in Mulu and Telang Usan in Miri earlier today.

Among those also present were Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau, and Senator Datu Dr Nuing Jeluing. — DayakDaily
