TATAU, June 28: The increase in Covid-19 cases here, especially in longhouses, is worrisome.

According to Tatau acting district officer Calvin Ligong in an interview with Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Tatau has to-date registered 10 active Covid-19 clusters.

“(The number of) Covid-19 cases have risen for three consecutive days and created new clusters in Tatau.

“Thus, the community in Tatau is urged to abide by the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the government.

“Besides, we have seen Covid-19 cases in Tatau occur in longhouses and this is worrisome.

“Hence, I urge the community to adhere to the SOPs and all activity or social gathering is prohibited during the Movement Control Order (MCO),” he said after visiting roadblocks and presenting food aid to frontliners on duty along the border separating Sibu and Bintulu division at Jalan Tatau Selangau recently.

For the record, Tatau has registered 390 Covid-19 cases in the past 14 days including 10 active clusters and three new clusters which were the Jalan Baru Tatau Bintulu Cluster, Jalan Kuala Tatau Cluster and the Sungai Separai Cluster.

On another note, Tatau police chief DSP Jame Reis reminded the community to stay at home and follow the SOPs if in public.

“We look at the Covid-19 statistics in the rural area in longhouses and every day there are clusters and cases in Tatau,” he said.

He added the police will conduct surveillance on the compliance of SOP by the public and will take stern action against those who flouted the SOP. — DayakDaily
