KUCHING, June 24: A retired medical officer lost as much as RM355,200 to a non-existent tender offer.
Sarawak police commissioner Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said on March 15, while looking for a contractor to install window grills on Facebook, the victim made contact with the suspect through WhatsApp.
According to Mohd Azman, on March 25, when the suspect came to the victim’s house to measure the house’s window for grill installation, the victim asked the suspect for tips on how to acquire a business license and government tender.
“The suspect then offered to help the victim to obtain grass cutting and landscaping tenders by June.
“In order to get the business license, the victim was told to made a payment to the suspect 11 times with a total amount of RM355,200.
“The victim realised he had been deceived after not getting any tender as promised by the suspect,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Azman advised the public against entertaining or making any payment to unknown individuals offering non-existent work tender on social media without checking with the relevant authorities.
