KUCHING, April 17: Sarawak is poised for a transformative leap in urban development with the Kenyalang Smart City (KSC) project in Miri, which will leverage cutting-edge technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and 5G connectivity as the foundation of its smart city ecosystem.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), this project, which is expected to be a key catalyst for the transformation of Sarawak’s urban and socioeconomic landscape, was formalised yesterday through an investment Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The agreement brings together Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd, China Energy Engineering Group Guangxi Electric Power Design Institute Co Ltd (CEEC-GXED), and several major corporations from Shandong, China. The signing of the MoU was also witnessed by Miri Mayor, Adam Yii.
The project will bring a new approach to urban development by integrating smart technologies such as AI, IoT, and 5G connectivity into its urban planning. This is also in line with the State’s sustainability principles and low carbon goals.

“This project will not only drive the growth of the digital economy and green technology in Sarawak but will also create thousands of high-value job opportunities for the local workforce,” said a representative of one of the participating companies.
The development of KSC will also include the establishment of world-class facilities such as a convention centre, performing arts centre, and cultural heritage museum, making it a new landmark for Miri and an attraction for investors and tourists both domestically and internationally. – DayakDaily
