Restrictions on religious activities in Kuching in effect during CMCO

KUCHING, Nov 8: All forms of religious activities in houses of worship here are not allowed during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) period from November 9-22.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) via issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) guidelines revealed the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for non-Muslim festivals and ceremonies will be in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).


Public and private official and non-official ceremonies are not allowed.

Meanwhile, seminars, workshops, courses as well as activities related to meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) are also not permitted.

However, training may be conducted within the training institute.

Activities in nightclubs or pubs, theme parks, karaoke, indoor playgrounds and cinemas are prohibited while sports and recreational activities for swimming pools and team events are also not allowed.

Sports activities such as football, gymnasium, futsal and badminton at badminton courts are prohibited.

SDMC also pointed out that taking vacations at non-CMCO areas or at other CMCO areas is not allowed.

On another note, SDMC revealed farmers markets are allowed to open from 6am to 12 noon with the adherence of SOP under supervision from People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela).

It added the operating hours of night markets or ‘pasar malam’ will be from 4pm until 10pm, with the adherence of SOP and supervision from Rela.

Petrol stations are allowed to operate from 6am to 10pm. — DayakDaily
