KUCHING, April 27: Two friends fishing for softshell turtles in a drain at Kopodims Housing Estate, Jalan Matang early yesterday morning (April 26) had a narrow escape when they almost became crocodile prey early yesterday morning (April 26).

Padawan District police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the incident happened at around 2am when the victims wanted to check their fishing line that had been set for softshell turtles.

He said they were suddenly attacked by a crocodile, but managed to save themselves and then proceeded to file a police report.

“According to the victims’ report, the crocodile is estimated to be about 10 feet long and the size of a gas cylinder.

“Before leaving the area, they also saw a pair of black slippers and three sticks by the ditch, but they did not find anyone in the area,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Following that, Abang Zainal said the police then informed Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) about the incident for further action.

“Residents in the surrounding area have also been informed not to fish and be in the area near the ditch because the crocodile is believed to be very ferocious,” he said. — DayakDaily
