Residents in Northern Sarawak urged to be on high alert for floods after heavy downpours

KUCHING, Jan 25: Continuous heavy rain has caused the river water to rise in several areas in Northern Sarawak today.

According to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), a survey of Medamit Town found that the water level was similar to the riverbank area.

Staff at the school and clinic and students of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Nanga Medamit continued their activities as usual. However, they were asked to be on high alert due to the possibility of floods.

Meanwhile, residents throughout Telang Usan were instructed to be prepared to face the possibility of floods happening again.

Several areas in Ulu Baram, such as Kampung Long Moh in Kedaya Telang Usan, were flooded due to the sudden downpours.

Meanwhile, several areas in the Subis district were also flooded such as Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Tangap, and Rumah Nelson Ningkan.

According to the report of the Subis divisional disaster management committee, the situation is still under control.

All agencies involved have been instructed to monitor the progress of the floods and to be prepared. — DayakDaily
