Rescue contractors being appointed for two of 13 Coastal Road Network packages

KUCHING, May 24: Rescue contractors are in the process of being appointed for two projects out of the 13 packages under the Coastal Road Network with a contract value of about RM4 billion, says Deputy Premier-cum-Minister for Finance and New Economy Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Uggah stated this when delivering his ministerial winding-up speech in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

“For the information of this august House, all the 13 packages with a contract value of about RM4.0 billion under this Coastal Road Network have been awarded.

“Eleven packages are at various stages of construction and are expected to be completed from as early as the second quarter of 2024 to the fourth quarter of 2025. The other two are in the process of appointing rescue contractors.

“As for the rehabilitation works on the existing coastal road, 11 out of 29 packages have been completed, as compared to eight reported in the previous DUN (sitting),” he said.

He also disclosed that the three additional packages which have been completed are Sadong Jaya/Sungai Buloh Road (8.18km) worth about RM9.3 million; Sebangan/Sebuyau Road (18.5km) worth about RM14.8 million; and Pusa/Sesang Road (26.6km) worth about RM10.8 million.

At the same time, Uggah said that the Second Trunk Road consists of 17 projects where six projects are at various stages of construction.

“All the following six projects at a total contract sum of RM1.9 billion are scheduled for completion from as early as the third quarter of 2024 to the second quarter of 2026, namely: Batang Saribas Bridge No.2; Batang Saribas to Roban (Interchange) Road; Sebuyau-Lingga Road; Sebuyau Bridge; Batang Lupar Bridge No.2; and Batang Lupar to Betong (Interchange) Road.

“The remaining 11 projects are at various stages of implementation, with four at the tender stage and seven at the design stage,” he added. — DayakDaily
