229 People’s Projects worth almost RM10 bln implemented across Sarawak

KUCHING, May 24: A total of 229 People’s Projects involving roads, bridges and buildings worth nearly RM10 billion have been implemented throughout Sarawak.

Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas disclosed that ‘People’s Project’ was previously known as ‘Walkabout’ and was initiated by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in 2017.


The projects that have been initiated include 121 road projects costing RM4.98 billion; 50 bridges (RM2.46 billion); 53 buildings (RM1.32 billion); four jetties (RM1.47 million); and a short take-off and landing airport or STOLport (RM296 million).

“Of them, 98 projects or 43 per cent have been completed, while 53 projects or 23 per cent are currently under construction and 78 projects (34 per cent) are at the pre-contract stage,” he explained when delivering his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

Upon full completion, the Deputy Premier expressed confidence that the various People’s Projects will be able to spur economic growth and improve the overall living standard of the people of Sarawak. — DayakDaily
