Raya grave visiting gives rise to Kolong 2 Cluster with 4 generations of infections, 36 cases

KUCHING, June 11: The spread of Covid-19 in the new Kolong 2 Cluster in Kuching has now infected four generations, with 36 confirmed cases so far.

The State Disaster Managament Committee (SDMC) confirmed that this community cluster was originated from a social gathering and grave visiting during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration in May.

It also said the cluster involved a locality that is under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO), which is, Kampung Kolong 2, hence the cluster name.


“A total of 52 individuals were screened where 36 cases were detected positive for Covid-19 including the index case and 16 cases were negative,” it said in a statement on Covid-19 update today.

SDMC also assured that all Covid-19 patients related to this cluster has been admitted into the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) or the Kuching Low-Risk Treatment and Quarantine Centre for Covid-19 (PKRC) for isolation and treatment purposes.

Other than the Kolong 2 Cluster in Kuching, Sarawak reported three additional new clusters today.

All the three clusters of the day were workplace clusters in Tatau namely the Pekan Tatau Baru Cluster, Sungai Kakau Cluster and Semanok Cluster.

While one Covid-19 cluster dubbed the Sungai Rayah Cluster in Meradong was declared to be expired today, SDMC said there are still 80 active clusters left in the whole of Sarawak. — DayakDaily
