Quick police action nabs suspect six hours after reported break-in at mobile phone shop

SIBU, August 7: A 23-year-old man was apprehended six hours after he was suspected of breaking into a telephone shop in Jalan Bengkel and stealing several handphones early Friday (Aug 5) morning.

Following a report lodged by the shop owner at around 2.30am, police managed to arrest the suspect at 8am on the same day.

Sibu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Zulkipli Suhaili said, an investigation found that the suspect had broken into the shop and several mobile phone units were missing suspected to be stolen.


He said that the 45-year-old owner of the shop immediately informed the police after realising that his shop had been broken into after viewing closed circuit television (CCTV) footage at the scene.

“A team of police officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) managed to locate the suspect and arrested him,” he said.

The police also seized several mobile phone units from the suspect.

Zulkipli said the case is being probed under Section 457 of the Penal Code.

The suspect has been remanded until August 12 to assist in the investigation. — DayakDaily
