KUCHING, Sept 25: A 29-second video showing a Toyota Hilux following a black Perodua Myvi at a traffic light along Jalan Matang, which went viral on social media on Sept 24, has led to the arrest of a 25-year-old man in connection with an attempted theft of vehicle components at a workshop in Jalan Batu Kawa.
Padawan District Police chief Supt Barry William said police received a report following the incident, which occurred at about 8.40am on Sept 24 when two suspicious men were spotted attempting to steal vehicle components outside the workshop.
He said the suspects fled in the black Perodua Myvi after being confronted by the complainant.
“Acting on information received and following further investigations, a police team seized the vehicle after it was found abandoned along Jalan Rantau Panjang.
“The 25-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested at about 9.15pm on the same day,” he said in a statement today.
Barry said police also seized several items to assist in the investigation, including a vehicle, a metal box and a car key.
“Police are continuing efforts to trace and identify other suspects believed to be involved in the incident,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 379/511 of the Penal Code for attempted theft.
