KUCHING, March 11: Vehicle owners can no longer make multiple slot bookings at the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom), a move aimed at preventing abuse by middlemen or ‘runners’ profiting from reselling slots.

In a TVS news report, Malaysia’s Transport Minister Anthony Loke emphasised that the decision was made following discussions with Puspakom’s top management and the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

“Some middlemen were found to be booking and reselling inspection slots at inflated prices. To prevent this, Puspakom will freeze the original slot if it is postponed to a later date, ensuring it cannot be misused or resold,” he said at a press conference during a working visit to Puspakom Wangsa Maju in Selangor today.

Additionally, to ease congestion, all Puspakom branches—except those in Langkawi, Kedah, and Pekan, Pahang—will operate 12 hours daily throughout March. This will increase daily inspection capacity from 13,500 to 15,500 vehicles.

Loke also announced that vehicle owners can now undergo periodic inspections up to 30 days before their Motor Vehicle License (LKM) expiry, an extension from the previous 14-day window.

“This improvement allows vehicle owners to plan ahead and secure an inspection slot earlier,” he said.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) is in discussions with the Ministry of Works (KKR) and the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) to explore exemptions for heavy vehicles requiring inspections during peak hours.

“All these enhancements will take effect on March 17, 2025,” Loke concluded. — DayakDaily
