KUCHING, Sept 15: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh has finally “let the cat out of the bag” in insisting to contest in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15), which shows his true motive to help Gabungan Party Sarawak (GPS) win in Sibu and Lanang, opined Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen.

This came following Wong’s declaration to contest the Sibu parliamentary seat in GE15 and failed negotiations between DAP and PSB over seat allocations as DAP insisted that the incumbent seats should be off limits.

“His (Wong’s) action in coming in so prominently, so high profile, declaring he will contest (in Sibu) and (potentially) working with PBK (Parti Bumi Kenyalang) in other seats just defies any logic.

“That’s why I said the cat is out of the bag with the ulterior motive to help GPS. After all, they come from the same group,” he told reporters today.

He was met after witnessing the disposal of ballot papers of the 12th Sarawak Election for Padungan, Pending and Batu Lintang constituencies at MBKS Depot in Bintawa Industrial Park here.

Chong, who is also Stampin MP, also viewed that for PSB and PBK to come together and form a political pact to face GE15 was quite strange, given that the the two political parties have different agendas, with the former claiming to fight for a better position of Sarawak in Malaysia and the latter going after Sarawak’s independence.

“Why I said so is because when he (Wong) expressed his intention to further negotiate with DAP on seats allocation, but suddenly shortly after that, he announced he is cooperating with PBK to contest in Lanang and himself in Sibu,” he elaborated.

“Given his age now at 70 plus, he suddenly announced that he wanted to contest in Parliament. So what can he do as one man in Parliament out of 222. I think it is impossible and ridiculous to think that one person against 222 can leverage anything or effect any policy at national level. So what is his intention?,” he claimed.

On whether DAP is currently looking at working with other parties outside Pakatan Harapan (PH), he said “they will see how things go” but PH component parties have already agreed on the seat allocations.

“We will move on from there based on our political agenda which is to fight for a fairer Malaysia and a more transparent and accountable system,” he added. — DayakDaily
