KUCHING, July 12: Barisan Nasional’s (BN) victory in the Johor state election is a timely reminder for all political parties that the people will continue to support governments that deliver results, provide political stability, and remain close to the rakyat.
In a statement, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief Christopher Gira Sambang said that for Sarawak, this reinforces the importance of maintaining the strengths that have enabled the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government to earn the trust of the people.
“Political stability, strong leadership, and effective governance have created a conducive environment for economic growth, investment, and rural development. However, we must never become complacent. Public trust is earned continuously through performance, integrity, and an efficient delivery system.
“Development projects must be implemented on schedule, public services must continue to improve, and the benefits of development must reach every corner of Sarawak, especially the rural and interior areas,” he said.
He added that the Johor election should inspire every political party to work harder, listen more closely to the people, and improve its delivery.
“Ultimately, elections are won not only through campaigns but through years of dedicated service, credible leadership, and the confidence that tomorrow will be better than today,” he said.
Touching on his position within PRS, he expressed the belief that the role of the party’s youth wing is more important than ever, as political rhetoric alone is no longer enough to satisfy the youth who want opportunities, quality education, good jobs, entrepreneurship support, digital connectivity, and meaningful participation in shaping Sarawak’s future.
He reiterated the wing’s commitment to continue strengthening its grassroots machinery, engage directly with young people, develop future leaders and become an effective bridge between the aspirations of the youth and the government’s policies.
“As Sarawak prepares for its coming State election, PRS Youth stand ready to work with the party’s leadership and GPS partners to strengthen public confidence, empower the younger generation, and ensure that Sarawak continues its path towards becoming a developed, prosperous, and united State,” he said.
In the 16th Johor state election that was held on July 11, BN won 48 of 56 seats, with the remaining seats going to Pakatan Harapan (PH).
Perikatan Nasional (PN) failed to win any of the 33 state seats it contested, while Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama), the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA), Parti Orang Asli Malaysia, Parti Sosialis Malaysia, and Independent candidates also failed to secure any seats. — DayakDaily
