PRS Women’s wing happy BN accepted their female candidate

KUCHING, April 24: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Women’s Wing is delighted that the party has finally made a breakthrough by putting up their woman candidate in this coming 14th General Election (GE14).

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had just announced the full candidate list for Barisan Nasional (BN) Sarawak at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters here today.

PRS’s sole woman candidate Rita Insol will stand in Selangau, replacing incumbent Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun.

“There is indeed light at the end of the tunnel and we are so thankful to both state and federal BN chairmen for their endorsement with regards to our candidates. We hope that this breakthrough will open doors for more women especially Dayak women, to participate in politics in the near future,” PRS Women’s chief Datuk Seri Doris Brodie said today.

Doris also thanked the party leadership for adhering to the wing’s calls to nominate women candidates.

“As I’ve said time and again, we are not short of Dayak women who are eligible and capable; it only calls for opportunity to be given and the men-centric mindset in the party to be changed. This is a good beginning. However and in order for PRS to be progressive and dynamic, we need to work in partnership and in good blood,” she added.

Doris said Rita is a woman of calibre and with her legal background, past experience holding management positions in Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd and her involvement with various NGOs, she is a good candidate.

“We also believe that she will make a good and responsible people’s representative when elected.

“It will also be history in the making when Rita is elected as Member of Parliament for being the first Dayak woman to be a parliamentarian,” Doris added.

The PRS Women’s wing will go all out alongside their party counterparts and BN comrades to battle for the hearts and minds of voters especially in the six parliamentary seats allocated to PRS, namely Sri Aman, Lubok Antu, Julau, Kanowit, Hulu Rejang and Selangau.

“We will not rest on our laurels and will not take our opponents for granted until the ‘war’ is won. We know we have the numbers (women voters), hence we want to make sure that these numbers will make a difference towards BN’s victory this GE14,” Doris said. — DayakDaily
