KUCHING, March 8: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Women have unanimously resolved to nominate its chief Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie as the party’s 15th General Election (GE15) candidate for Sri Aman during its Central Women’s Wing meeting this morning.

This resolution was among decisions reached during the meeting which must be held prior to the party’s Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC).

“Amongst the issues discussed were the party’s forthcoming Triennial Delegates Conference which will be held from April 23 to 24 and our wing’s unanimous proposal for our Women chief, Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie to be nominated as candidate for P202 Sri Aman next 15th General Election.

“We decided to make known our decision publicly to commemorate the International Women’s Day today with the theme ‘Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow’.

“More importantly because this has been our hope and aspiration. It’s long overdue,” said PRS Women deputy chief, Councillor Rosaline Neging in a statement today.

She said the women members in PRS were ready, had worked hard over the years and hoped to have their candidate Doris who has been moving on the ground extensively not only in Sri Aman but throughout Sarawak, particularly in PRS-held constituencies all these years while campaigning for other PRS candidates in both Sarawak and parlimentary elections.

According to Rosaline, Doris is not only competent but also very experienced and has been in politics for 36 years. The latter had also served as a Senator and Deputy President of the Senate.

Rosaline said PRS Women is not lacking in credible members who are eligible to assume political positions but unfortunately they have not been given enough opportunities by the party.

PRS has been allocated six parliamentary seats to contest by ruling coalition Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), namely Sri Aman, Kanowit, Hulu Rajang, Selangau, Julau and Lubok Antu.

During GE14, PRS managed to retain Sri Aman, Kanowit and Hulu Rajang. However, on March 7, 2019, Sri Aman MP Datuk Masir Kujat left PRS to join Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB). — DayakDaily
