PRS to consider setting up new wing for youth aged 18 to 28

KUCHING, Jan 12: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) will look into setting up a new wing to cater for youths aged 18 to 28.

Its Youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan said the announcement by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg last Sunday (Jan 9) that PBB would be setting up such a wing is worth considering by any if not all of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition partners.

“Now, it is only right and fair that this segment of society be given a political platform of their choice in any political party to participate and express their aspirations.

“As a positive approach to good governance, we prepare for them and ready the utensils in the likes of plates and spoons for them to pick dishes from the menu. The rest is their good conscience.

“Nonetheless, it all boils down to each party whether setting up a new wing is allowed or not by its constitution, else ratification by way of amendment is the way forward,” he said in a statement.

Snowdan was responding to press queries on his views of the setting up of a new wing for youth aged 18 to 28 is a good move and whether PRS will follow in PBB’s footsteps.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari had on Jan 9 announced that PBB will set up a new wing for those aged 18 to 28 at the party’s upcoming triennial general meeting (TGM) in June 2022.

He added the party during its TGM will amend the constitution in order for the new wing to be formally formed.

Meanwhile, Snowdan said by virtue of the constitution, those between the age of 18 and 21 will be able to cast their votes in the next General Election following the implementation of Undi18 .

Thus, Snowdan believed forming a new wing is an inclusive approach which will allow for participative endeavour and prosperity of society. — DayakDaily
