SIBU, Aug 31: Twenty-three of 43 passengers on a tour bus were injured after it was involved in a single-vehicle accident at the Kanowit roundabout in Sibu Jaya early this morning.
In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at about 2.25am, and firefighters from the Sibu Jaya station were deployed.
In total, 23 victims were injured, comprising 19 women and four men. Firefighters arrived at the scene at 2.48am and found that no victims were trapped in the accident.
However, firefighters helped evacuate one female victim who was still inside the bus to a safe location, while members of the public had assisted the other 42 passengers out before firefighters arrived.
Medical personnel provided initial treatment to all injured victims before sending them to Sibu Hospital and Kanowit Hospital for further treatment.
The operation was brought under control at 3am and fully concluded at about 4.50am after the scene was confirmed safe. — DayakDaily
