KUCHING, May 13: Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang (GPS-PRS) has requested more allocations from both the Federal and Sarawak Governments for the acceleration of perimeter survey of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land.

He said during the Federal Government’s Budget announcement last year for the year 2026, a development allocation amounting to RM6 billion was designated for Sarawak.

However, he noted that unlike the 2025 Federal Budget Presentation, where an explicit allocation of RM15 million was specifically announced for NCR land survey activities in Sarawak – the 2026 announcement did not clearly specify any dedicated allocation for this purpose.

“In this regard, I would like to suggest that the Sarawak Government consider allocating as specific portion from the RM6 billion Federal 2026 development allocation for the continuation and acceleration of NCR land survey works throughout Sarawak.

“In addition to that, I also wish to propose that the Sarawak Government allocate a dedicated portion as well from the RM9.3 billion Sarawak 2026 development budget – in addition to the Federal budget allocation, if any, to further strengthen and complement the implementation of NCR land survey programmes across Sarawak,” said Nyabong when debating Motion of Thanks on TYT Address at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly here today.

The Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) representative said Kapit, in particular, requires bigger budget allocation for the purpose of these surveys, considering the vast size of NCR land areas within the Division and the fact that many of these lands have yet to be properly surveyed and documented.

“This is important because NCR land surveys are not merely administrative exercises, they involve legal certainty, protection of native customary rights, socio-economic security and long-term development planning for rural communities throughout Sarawak especially for the people in Kapit,” said Nyabong. —DayakDaily
