Private clinic personnel need permission to enter lockdown areas, quarantine centres

Dato Sri Tiong King Sing

KUCHING, Sept 9: Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing hopes private clinic personnel in Bintulu will refrain from making unilateral decisions to enter lockdown areas or quarantine centres to give Covid-19 tests.

He asserted that pandemic prevention work fell under the jurisdiction of the Bintulu Health Department.

“I will be meeting with the head of Rela (People’s Volunteer Corps) today to understand why there are still outsiders able to enter and exit the lockdown areas and quarantine centres freely without authorisation (in order) to perform tests for Covid-19 on patients,” said Tiong in a social media page post today.

Tiong who is also the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China said the authorities have nothing to hide, but to prevent inconsistent results, only one official party should be responsible for carrying out operations related to Covid-19 containment and testing.

For members of the public who need medical assistance or emergency help regarding the pandemic, he urged them to call the Health Department hotline at 086-318666 at any time.

“Alternatively, call me or my colleague in the service centre for assistance,” said Tiong.

In face of a pandemic, he said, private clinics which are willing to contribute efforts may contact the Health Department, instead of their personnel arbitrarily making decisions such as entering a lockdown area or a quarantine centre, which could risk their own or others’ health.

He said the Health Department welcomes any help if they are informed beforehand. — DayakDaily
