Prison warden arrested for robbery, impersonating police

The seized Perodua Alza allegedly used by the suspect to commit his crimes.

MIRI, April 9: Miri police arrested a 33-year-old man yesterday for impersonating a cop and robbing an Indonesian woman of RM5,000 in Batu Niah.

The man who works as a prison warden was arrested at 3.30pm at a house in Bakam following a report lodged by the victim who is in her 20’s.

It was learnt that the suspect allegedly pulled over in a vehicle and stopped the victim before telling her to hand over her handbag. The suspect then fled in the vehicle.

The incident happened at around 9am on Sunday in front of a shopping mall in Batu Niah.

It is believed that the suspect might have been involved in at least four other similar cases.

During yesterday’s arrest, the police also recovered and seized items believed to be used by the suspect to commit the crimes. Also seized were cash amounting to RM15,000 and a Perodua Alza.

The suspect is currently under police custody for questioning.

The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 and Section 170 of the Penal Code. — DayakDaily
