KUCHING, May 28: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg wants other cities to emulate Miri in digitalising services.

Abang Johari emphasised that Miri City’s safe park concept, which is implemented in Miri parks and includes the latest amenities such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and Panic Button Smart Poles that have been installed and are linked to a command centre that will be alerted in the event of an emergency, is an excellent initiative.

“I was informed your parks are equipped with the latest equipment and any signals detected are sent to your command centre.

“This is a great success and I ask other cities to emulate the city of Miri in terms of this smart application,” he said in his speech during the 2023 Miri City May Fest Closing Dinner, which was held tonight at the Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club in Miri.

The Premier said Miri has evolved from an old city to a modern city known as a smart city.

“As I stated previously, Miri has been designated as a city in which we intend to complete the infrastructure based on the concept of a smart city.

“And this is where I have collaborated with Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) and Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) to equip the city of Miri with advanced tools so that the management of the city of Miri from a cultural perspective and its relationship with the people of Miri can be integrated via specific applications.

“Consequently, I must congratulate Miri, as even the citizens of Miri have responded to the city’s transition towards becoming a smart city,” he said.

Among others present at the event were Deputy Premier of Sarawak Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian; Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Miri City Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang; and Minister of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin. — DayakDaily
