KUCHING, May 10: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, is expected to arrive in Miri on Sunday (May 12) to pay his last respects to the late Senate president Datuk Mutang Tagal.
According to a statement from the Malaysia Parliament Senate Office, the ceremony to pay last respects to Mutang will be held over three days, beginning tomorrow (May 11) in Nirvana Centre Kuala Lumpur, with his funeral on May 13.
His body will be flown back from Kuala Lumpur to Miri on May 12, where the ceremony for paying of last respects will be held at Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) Airport Road Church in Miri, with arrival expected at 10am.
The late senator will be laid to rest at the SIB Lambir cemetery, Miri after a tribute service at BEM Canada Hill Church on Monday (May 13).
Mutang passed away at 11.46am today at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur, where he had been hospitalised since returning from a working trip to Azerbaijan on May 6. He was 70.
Born on Oct 5, 1954, in Lawas, Mutang was married to Datin Ho May Leng and was blessed with three children.
He was the first Dayak of Lun Bawang ethnicity to hold the office of Senate president, and was only sworn in on Feb 19 this year.
He was also a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Bukit Mas (now renamed as Lawas). — DayakDaily
