KUCHING, June 23: Sarawak will maintain its electricity tariff, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Abang Johari said electricity supply is part of Sarawak’s economic strength that will attract investors.
“If the electric tariff is expensive, it will deter investors from coming to the State.
“Apart from that, it would also affect contractors in paying their bills,” he said during PKMM Sarawak’s 24th Annual General Meeting (AGM) opening ceremony and dinner held at Pullman Hotel here earlier.
He said Sarawak is blessed with an abundance of water resources, oil and gas, sunshine (for solar power), and wind (wind turbine).
“Currently, Sarawak is in the process of building its 1,285MW Baleh Hydro Dam and after that we have decided to build another one in Trusan, Limbang,” he added.
Recently, Putrajaya was reported to have introduced an electricity tariff surcharge of 10 sen per kilowatt hour for domestic users with monthly usages of more than 1,5000 kWh. — DayakDaily
