KUCHING, Nov 13: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has again rebutted allegations that a vote for Gabungan Party Sarawak (GPS) is a vote for United Malays National Organisation (Umno).

He denied outright any political relations with Umno when asked to comment on the slogan “GPS menang, Zahid senang” which means that if Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) wins, things would be easy for Umno president Dato Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is currently facing corruption charges in court.

“How can it be ‘Zahid senang’? It should be ‘Abang Jo senang’,” came Abang Johari’s response to a reporter’s question at a press conference in Telaga Air here today.

As polling day looms, party flags and banners with catchy slogans have begun to sprout along roadsides and at locations where motorists can easily see while waiting in traffic.

A few of those banners at the Simpang Tiga roundabout here, believed to be put up by Democratic Action Party (DAP) as its logo is seen on them, also claim in Chinese script that “corruption would be as fierce as a tiger should Zahid becomes the government”.

While DAP has been pushing GPS to name its choice of Prime Minister for the coming election, GPS top brass including Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian have reiterated on many occasions that GPS would only be working with whichever Malaya-based party that proposes the best conditions for Sarawak to form the government with them after the election. — DayakDaily
