KUCHING, Feb 6: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has requested that LCDA CTR Technology Sdn Bhd (LCTSB) also develop the industrialised building system (IBS) factory in Sarawak’s central zone to supply components to the surrounding areas, particularly Limbang, Lawas, Miri, and Bintulu.

Abang Johari stated that the factory’s presence will make it easier to construct affordable homes and commercial buildings in Sarawak’s central zone.

“We are developing Jepak in Bintulu, of course we will use this system so that the house is more durable and beautiful,” he told reporters during a press conference held today after officiating the IBS factory at the LCDA CTR Technology Sdn Bhd building here.

Furthermore, he noted that the goal of building 1,500 to 2,000 housing units can be met by combining the IBS system with other systems.

“The IBS factory, with an investment of RM29 million, can produce a complete house, including components such as bathrooms.

“It does not produce construction waste and its components are also equipped with electrical systems.”

Abang Johari also stated that housing projects, particularly in Sarawak’s rural areas, would be developed using the IBS method, which included a mixed housing project in Jalan Depo, Samariang, and a rural village expansion scheme in Kabong and Asajaya.

“With the IBS system produced by LCDA CTR, we can build houses faster. We already have an environment-friendly system as well as quality houses, which we can build either in urban or rural areas,” he added.

Earlier in his speech, the Premier requested that LCDA conduct a feasibility study on the construction of another IBS factory in Sarawak’s central zone.

“Perhaps LCDA can create another area in Bintulu or Sibu since Lawas will have aeroplanes and IBS construction materials are much needed.

“The government will also implement the Village Expansion Scheme (SPK) in several areas such as Tambirat in Asajaya, Kabong, Matu, Sibu, Miri, and Kapit,” he noted.

The event was attended by various dignitaries and officials, including Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and federal Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. — DayakDaily
