Politician’s sister claims trial over alleged RM2.42 mil misappropriation of late father’s Kuching estate

KUCHING, Aug 21: A 60-year-old woman, the sister of a Sarawak politician, pleaded not guilty in a trial at the Sessions Court here today on charges of allegedly misappropriating RM2.42 million belonging to her late father.

The accused pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Judge Iris Awen Jon.

She was charged under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of between six months and five years, whipping, and a fine upon conviction.

The charge alleges that she dishonestly misappropriated RM2.42 million from a savings account belonging to her deceased father, with the alleged offence said to have taken place at a bank here on June 10, 2024.

The funds, which were allegedly withdrawn without the consent of the family or other rightful beneficiaries, are believed to form part of the deceased’s estate and were intended for distribution among the lawful heirs.

After recording her plea, the court granted the accused bail of RM100,000 without deposit, with two local sureties.

The court also fixed Sept 28, 2026, for case management.

The accused is represented by lawyers Roger Chin and Lim Heng Choo, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Chuah Kai Sheng appeared for the prosecution. — DayakDaily
