Political pundit: MA63 powers restored with more federal funds, anything else is bonus

Dato Peter Minos

KUCHING, Dec 19: Political pundit Dato Peter Minos asserts that with Sarawak’s Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) powers restored and presumably more federal and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) funds coming in, Sarawak cannot ask or wish for more, and anything else from the federal side is an extra bonus.

According to a press statement from Minos, years of almost endless political squabbles and quarrels in Malaysia, especially on the peninsula, have left Malaysians politically exhausted, weary and sick, and Malaysians just want political peace and stability.

“Enough of the difficult and troubled political past.

“The current mood is for the current federal government to settle down and start doing its work of running the country and governing the people, devoid of political disturbance and instability.

“People are not really bothered by how the federal government was created. People want what happened as the past and as history,” he said.

He opined people want to start anew, especially as the new year is just around the corner.

“Many are saying: just have a new fresh start in 2023 and be done away with the difficult and problematic past.

“For us in Sarawak and what I have been hearing in the last few days since the formation of the federal government, the people are pretty happy of (sic) what happened: that Sarawak was given five full federal ministers, six deputy ministers, a deputy prime minister and Sarawak’s powers under MA63 be returned within a month,” he said.

Minos also opined that Sarawakians are said to be satisfied with the treatment by the new federal government.

“With Sarawak’s MA63 powers restored and presumably more federal and Petronas funds coming in, Sarawak cannot ask or wish for more, and anything else from the federal side is an extra bonus.

“We can even say that a fair and just treatment of Sarawak by the federal government is now actively and positively coming up. That itself is a cause for some jubilation.

“Definitely a new political chapter is opening up for us in Sarawak, thanks to the new federal government and, of course, to GPS (Gabungan Party Sarawak) strength in unity and a wise Premier,” he added.

“May we look forward to a really happy and joyous new year.” — DayakDaily
