KUCHING, Nov 9: Out of the 81 Sarawakians stranded in Myanmar, 30 have been successfully brought back, according to Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri.

Mohd Azman revealed that there have been 52 reports made with regards to Sarawakians being lured by high-paying jobs in casinos and hotels, only to find themselves stranded in a situation far from what was promised.

“Our records show 81 of them, but some have been successful brought back. There are still those in the records who have yet to return,” said Mohd Azman in a press conference held after the opening of Sarawak Police Headquarters Pavilion which was streamed live via social media today.

He said the 52 reports were lodged from different parts of Sarawak, including Sibu, Miri and Kuching.

“The reports were lodged by families and relatives whom the victims were able to get in touch with and who the victims related to about being stranded in Myanmar due to promises of offers of highly-paid jobs in USD at casinos or hotels. But when they arrived, things did not happen as promised,” said Mohd Azman.

He said all reports received will be referred to Bukit Aman for further actions. — DayakDaily
