LAWAS, Sept 30: The death of a newborn baby boy in Sundar on Monday (Sept 28) has been classified as a sudden death case, police said.
Lawas District Police chief Deputy Superintendent Liong Tindan said authorities received a report on the incident from a medical officer at Lawas Hospital at 1.23am.
According to preliminary information, the infant was brought to Lawas Hospital by family members for treatment at about 10pm.
“Medical personnel found that the baby was unresponsive upon arrival. Resuscitation efforts were immediately carried out, but the infant could not be revived and was pronounced dead,” he said in a statement today as reported by TVS.
Liong said the attending medical officer subsequently lodged a police report, prompting further investigation.
Police have since opened an investigation file, while the baby’s body has been placed at the mortuary of Lawas Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Initial investigations revealed that the infant had recently been born and was later placed in the care of an adoptive family, as the biological mother is a foreign national.
“Police are in the process of tracing the baby’s mother to assist with investigations. Statements will also be recorded from all relevant witnesses,” he said. — DayakDaily
