MIRI, Sept 30: Repair works worth RM480,000 to shore up three Hilltop Garden homes are already 27 per cent complete and could finish ahead of schedule, with a further RM1 million approved for five more affected homes.
Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the RM480,000 project, originally scheduled for completion by June next year, was progressing well and could be completed earlier.
“The work has been progressing well and is now 27 per cent complete. The work began in June and, according to schedule, is expected to be completed by June next year,” he said during a working visit to inspect the project here today, as reported by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
He said the project involved rebuilding collapsed retaining walls, as well as related sanitation and reinforced concrete drainage works at Lots 257, 258 and 259.
The allocation was obtained through the Disaster Emergency Fund applied for through the Public Works Department (JKR).
Lee said JKR might be able to complete the works earlier than scheduled.
Meanwhile, a follow-up inspection found that another five homes in the same row were facing similar problems following floods earlier this year.
“So, five houses are facing the same risk, where the retaining walls, fences and drainage structures also appear to have collapsed,” he said.
He said JKR had estimated that about RM1 million would be needed for repairs involving the five additional homes.
The additional allocation has since been approved under the same fund, while JKR is preparing the design before work begins.
Once completed, the combined works will address the retaining wall, fencing and drainage problems affecting all eight homes in the row. — DayakDaily
