KUCHING, Feb 24: There is no decrease in development allocation despite the allowance cut for Members of Parliament (MP), says Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He noted that there are a few parties who try to argue why it is necessary to reduce the allocation of MPs and that the cut seems to deny the welfare of the people.

“I (wish to) emphasise here that that notion is completely untrue and wrong.

“This is because the channeling method is not important either to the state government or the MPs because the amount does not decrease.

“The important thing is that it still reaches the people,” he told Dewan Rakyat when tabling the revised Budget 2023 today.

On Feb 3, Anwar when met by pressmen in Port Dickson, confirmed that the MP development allowance has been reduced from RM3.8 million to RM1.3 million to better control the country’s finances and would be implemented in stages. — DayakDaily
