Sarawak allocated RM5.6 bln devt fund under Budget 2023

KUCHING, Feb 24: Sarawak has been allocated a RM5.6 billion development fund while Sabah gets RM6.5 billion in the revised Budget 2023.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Sabah and Sarawak will continue to benefit greatly from the country’s development allocation.


“Among the plans include developing towns bordering Kalimantan, Indonesia such as Kalabakan in Sabah and Ba’Kelalan in Sarawak with funding of RM1 billion in line with Indonesia’s new capital shift to Kalimantan.

“In addition, more than RM2.5 billion has been allocated to implement projects involving public infrastructure which will mostly benefit Sabah and Sarawak involving road projects and street lights as well as water and electricity supply,” he said when tabling the budget in Parliament, Kuala Lumpur which was broadcast live today.

Anwar also stressed that the Federal government is committed to continuing and speeding up the implementation of the Pan Borneo Sabah highway and the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road which is estimated to involve a total cost of RM20 billion with a length of more than 1,000 kilometres.

“To provide convenience to people in rural Sabah and Sarawak, the government will also allocate RM30 billion to set up more clinics, banks and mobile courts,” he added.

Previously, Anwar had announced that Sarawak and Sabah via its technical departments will have the full authority to procure and approve federal projects worth RM50 million to speed up implementation of the project.
